~Reflection~
The letter from a soldier is an example of a primary source. I used this because the author of the letter experienced the Civil War personally and wrote about it. It is reliable because it was not handed down or told by another person, it is in first person and explains his personal feelings toward the War.
All the websites I had used including, Google and history.com are all secondary sources I relied on to complete this website. History.com is reliable because all the information you can find on there is based on historical events and facts found by researchers. Google was just the search engine I used to find websites usable that held the info I needed. All my pictures came off of Google images as well.

Nat Turner had a difficult life as a slave, which led to him planning a revolt against slave owners to fight for his own freedom. During the revolt that Turner has started he only killed one person, Ms. Margaret Whitehead. Of the 15 men involved in the revolt they had killed many people but Turner could never put himself up to killing a person. The article states that he picked up the fence rail and beat her to death out of desperation (225). This statement shows that he has a heart and was not a crazy enough man that he could just kill any man that came into his sight. Nat Turner only wanted to become a free man rather than having to spend his life working for a white male. Turner would get signs from the heavens Jehovah that he believed were signs to act and change the way life was for slaves. "For Turner the black spot was an unmistakable proof that God wanted him to move" (223). Turner believes that God wanted him to start this, through the many signs he had received through out his life. He acted on the messages but it didn't go in his favor. In the end "he became a legendary hero who broke his chains and murdered white people because slavery had murdered Negroes" (231). Nat Turner led a slave a revolt because he believed that is what he needed to do in order to become a free man.
