Harriet Beecher Stowe

Harriet was an American abolitionist, and a writer. She is the author of the novel Uncle Tom's Cabin. Her novel was popular and all about anti-slavery. Uncle Tom's Cabin intensified the idea of sectionalism before the Civil War began. After the war had started, Harriet met with Abraham Lincoln and he made the comment "So you are the little woman who wrote the book to start this great war."

Charles Sumner was an American politician and Massachusetts Senator. Sumner lead an Antislavery force in Massachusetts, he also lead a Radical Republicans group in the U.S. senate during the civil war. This group was working toward breaking the Confederacy. He worked toward equal rights and not being mostly confederate ran after the war.

John Brown

John Brown was a radical abolitionist. He believed the way to get rid of slavery was in a violent way. He was seen as a hero to the North. He formed a group to create slave rebellions and attacked the federal arsenal in Harper's Ferry to retrieve supplies and carry out the rebellions. During the attack he was caught and hung.

Stephen Douglas was an American politician in Illinois. Douglas also created the Kansas-Nebraska Act. This act repealed the Missouri Compromise. Douglas stood behind the cause of popular sovereignty when it came to slavery. When he ran for president he was beat by Abraham Lincoln.
