Economics~
Jobs were scarce and the competition was high especially for immigrants. The North and South had very different economies. The North was industrial and the South was more agricultural based and the work was completed by slaves.
Social/Moral~
Uncle Tom's Cabin was an anti-slavery based novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe that caused an uprising when it comes to slavery. The north was opposed to the use of slave labor which was the opposite to the South.
Political (increase in sectionalism)
Fugitive Slave laws and Personal Liberty Laws were put into place. The Kansas- Nebraska Act uses Popular Sovereignty to determine if the area is free or slave. Bleeding Kansas was when John Brown led a massacre and 200 people had been killed. The Dred Scott Decision of 1857 stated that an African American could not become a citizen.
